CEVA teaches local children about road safety

CEVA's visit coincides with BRAKE Road Safety Week

Ashby De La Zouch, UK, 25 November 2009 - CEVA Logistics, a leading global supply chain management company, is working with a local school to teach children about road safety. The visit coincides with BRAKE (the UK's Road Safety Charity) Road Safety Week.

During the visit the children are encouraged to shout, which as Shaun Dempsey, Operations Training, CEVA explains, is a key part of CEVA's demonstration: "The aim is to teach youngsters about road safety and to demonstrate in a fun and lifelike manner how difficult it is for truck drivers to see and hear people near to their vehicles. The driver sits inside the cab with the radio and heater on and the children stand at the rear shouting as loud as they can. The children step forward one pace at a time and they are surprised how close they have to be before the horn is blasted to prove the driver has heard them."

CEVA takes its commitment to the community very seriously, with various programmes in place to heighten safety in all areas where the company works and operates. CEVA maintains global health, safety and environmental (HSE) policies and standards, which have been developed by industry professionals. CEVA's simple HSE motto "Serious About Safety" is instilled into all employees, and encourages them to recognise the daily importance of HSE and ensure its continual improvement. This year's safety awareness demonstration for Large Goods Vehicles will celebrate the tenth year CEVA has run this programme.

Carol Price the Head Teacher at Packington Primary School said: "The children really enjoyed the visit by CEVA. They learnt all about road safety and blind spots, taking care near lorries and that drivers cannot hear people outside their cabs."
